The weeds remind us of the reality of temptation. The devil is active, sowing seeds of division, discouragement, and sin. Yet these weeds cannot overpower the wheat if we remain rooted in Christ. Prayer, sacraments, and community support are the tools that help us resist. The battle is real, but victory belongs to God.
The promise of the parable is radiant: “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.†This is the destiny of those who remain faithful. Despite the struggles, despite the weeds, God assures us of glory. Our vocation is not wasted, our sacrifices are not forgotten. The light of Christ will transform us completely.
This parable also challenges us to be patient with ourselves. Growth takes time, and holiness is not achieved overnight. We must accept that weeds exist, but we must not let them dominate. Each confession, each prayer, each act of charity is a step towards becoming wheat. God’s patience invites us to be patient with our own journey.
In the end, the parable is both sobering and hopeful. It sobers us with the reality of judgment but fills us with hope in God’s mercy and promise. For seminarians and for all Christians, it is a call to daily conversion. Each day, we are asked to choose: will we be wheat or weed? And with God’s grace, we can grow into wheat that shines like the sun in His Kingdom.
Remember, holiness is choosing to remain wheat—steadfast in goodness and rooted in Christ—even when surrounded by the weeds of temptation, negativity, or indifference.,
